In 1983, the Church issued a completely new code of canon law. Contrary to its predecessor, the 1983 Code of Canon Law didn't explicitly name Masonic orders among the secret societies it condemns. It states: "A person who joins an Affiliation which plots versus the Church is usually to be punished that has a just penalty; one who promotes or can ta
